Welcome to Groundswell Seed Farm!
Our mission is to preserve heirloom and open-pollinated vegetable, grain, fruit, flower, and herb crops. The farm grows crops to adapt and to evolve varieties for northern climates with unique characteristics, flavor, appeal, disease resistance, and high vigor. We believe that farm-based, regional, diverse, and accessible seed is the foundation for any sustainable food system. We also believe local food could be grown with local seed more than we do currently. And this would strengthen our independance from foreign interests.
Established by Michael Bowman, Groundswell Seed Farm, started out as an idea, in college, as to how do we solve the problems of pollution in the food we eat and how do we end world hunger. Also I loved living in my home state of Maine and needed a way to save myself from an urban life. And farming, for me, was the way out. But not adopting the farming methods that ran the world. Farming in a way that would solve the problems we face. Farming biologically solves the issues of pollution and hunger. And a few years and tears later 'boom' Groundswell Seed Farm is a real thing. By the way all of our seeds listed on the website are open-pollinated, non-GMO, and are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
